               Making Hay                                                        Feb. 14, 2005

"…now is the accepted time…now is the day…" I have a little saying, "I'm gonna' never did nothin'." Many of us revel in our little fantasies that at another time and day, we're really going to fulfill our good intentions. We don’t want to begin where we're at with what we have. We're waiting till we get it all together. "Produce to perfection" is not a cliché we cherish. We want to start that way. It's never a convenient time or day with chronic procrastinators.

But, if not now, when? Tomorrow never comes with these well-intentioned dreamers. We are not promised a tomorrow in this life; but we do have today. The wise man admonishes us, "Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth." Our Lord always emphasized in His ministry that now was the time and day.

To "make hay while the sun shines" is a present act, not a future intention.
